I am very enthusiastic about teaching ESOL! I have taught in Walton County since 1996, but have only taught ESOL since 2010. We will be very busy learning to improve English proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. I have a great group of students. I enjoy working with each of them! |
Welcome to ESOL at Youth Elementary School! Your child has been assigned to improve his/her English skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing with me this school year. I am excited about spending the year with you and your child. I would like to take the opportunity in this letter to give you some understanding and background that I feel you need to know before the first day of school.
I take my career in education very seriously and choose to spend many hours outside of the classroom preparing instructional materials. I have a strong personal philosophy of education and want you to know what my foundation is for learning in my room.
I believe that it is important to help each child develop into a strong learner. To accomplish this goal, children need to be guided in these areas:
1. Ownership: To motivate children to feel that they are learning because they want to, not to please others.
2. Achievement: Children need to do their best work each and every day. I will expect children to put forth the effort to move forward in the learning process.
3. Initiative: All people have different levels of risk taking willingness. I will work hard to help children allow their curiosity and risk taking to be at their safe maximum so they grow as self-starters and express independence.
4. Flexibility: All children are not alike. I have a class of individual learners. It is important that I am always flexible with their social and emotional growth.
You will find that I use many hands-on materials, many children's literature books, computers, and many language and decision-making activities. I will take the state required performance standards and the objectives of the ACCESS English proficiency test your child will take this year and use them as guidelines to sequence instructional skills for your child.
We are a team. Together we can have a warm, caring, and productive year!
